The economic footprint of the healthcare industry in Baden-Württemberg For the first time the economic research institute WifOR determined the national economic operating numbers of the industrial healthcare industry for a project consortium. This investigation takes as its starting point the commodity-specific delimitation and hence the definition of the healthcare industry on the basis of the national health-economic accounts of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. Systems Biology in Baden-Württemberg The emerging interdisciplinary field of systems biology is pursuing a completely new approach, namely the description of the dynamic interplay of all the components of a biological system using mathematical models with the aim of obtaining a holistic view of the system under consideration. With its three systems biology centres, Baden-Württemberg is a pioneer in the field in Germany.
