Initiated by C. Fruwirth, the State Plant Breeding Institute (Landessaatzuchtanstalt, LSA) was founded in 1905 as a university institution of research and development in the field of plant breeding. The tasks to be fulfilled by the LSA are guided by socioeconomic requirements for an ecological crop production.
