Bio-based Industries Consortium

The Bio-based Industries (BBI) initiative is a European initiative aimed at facilitating the transition from a fossil fuel- to a biobased economy. It has funding of approximately four billion euros. BIOPRO can act as a representative for Baden-Württemberg companies in the associated Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC).

The European Commission's Horizon 2020 (2014 – 2020), the EU's new Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, contributes nearly one billion euros and the initiative's industrial partners have contributed 2.8 billion euros to secure Europe's transition to a petrol-free era. The goal is not only to replace petrol, but also to establish a society and an economy that focus on the sustainable use of resources and greener and more environmentally friendly growth. The initiative brings together partners from a broad range of different sectors (e.g. agriculture, biotech, forestry, pulp and paper, chemicals, energy) and covers the entire value creation chain with the aim of connecting previously unconnected sectors.

The industrial partners come under the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC), which to date has brought together more than 200 European small- and medium-sized companies, clusters and organisations.

BIOPRO is an ordinary member of BIC with the right to vote, thereby giving the small- and medium-sized companies it represents the full benefits of BBI. BIOPRO currently represents nine German companies (BARK CLOTH_europe, Chemie-Technik GmbH, FOUR MOTORS GmbH, Insilico Biotechnology AG, k-labor GmbH, Novis GmbH, spek DESIGN GbR, Subitec GmbH and TECNARO GmbH).

How to join BBI

Membership of BBI is open to industrial and commercial companies active in the field of biobased industries. Full membership of BBI is possible through BIC membership or companies can opt for representation through BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg.

BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg is interested in representing several more small- and medium-sized companies in Germany. Our full voting rights enable us to represent your interests and we will keep you informed about interesting project scenarios and possible participation in projects prior to and after meetings.

If you are interested in joining BBI through BIOPRO and if your SME complies with the definition set out by the European Commission, please do not hesitate to contact us.
