Bioeconomy: Shaping the future

Projects in the bioeconomy field

With its 2019 ‘Sustainable Bioeconomy for Baden-Württemberg’ strategy, the Baden-Württemberg government created the framework for the further development of a biobased economy. BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg is involved in implementing this strategy in cooperation with the state’s ministries as well as in international projects.

Carbon is the key raw material of almost all products and forms of energy in our world. Today, carbon of fossil origin is still mostly used to produce products and fuels. The goal must be to put our economic system on a new footing and develop new, non-fossil carbon sources for material and energy use. To do this, processes need to be modified and, where sensible and possible, either be replaced by biological processes or using biological processes as a model. In order to use renewable resources as sustainably as possible, we need to think of our economy in terms of value-added networks and develop them as part of a circular economy. BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg is actively working on this bioeconomic transformation of the economy and informing society about the progress made in Baden-Württemberg.

Interreg Alpine Space Programme

The bioeconomy and the healthcare sector are seen as strategically important future sectors in the EU's Strategy for the Alpine Region. BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg GmbH is the lead partner in the EU-cofinanced ARDIA-Net project, which got underway in October 2019. The aim of the project is to develop a transnational funding programme for research, development and innovation (R&I) for regional and local authorities in the Alpine macroregion. The project is aimed at establishing the legal framework as well as the blueprints for managing the programme.

Bioeconomy

The Bio-based Industries (BBI) initiative is a European initiative aimed at facilitating the transition from a fossil fuel- to a biobased economy. It has funding of approximately four billion euros. BIOPRO can act as a representative for Baden-Württemberg companies in the associated Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC).
